Formerly with Sports Association Management Inc.
Kay Hawes has more than 10 years of experience in athletics associations, focusing primarily on communications, publications, and media relations. Hawes currently manages the IA Faculty Athletics Representatives (IAFARs), an organization of faculty athletics represetatives at NCAA Division 1A institutions.
Hawes also directs media relations and publications
for The National Center for Drug Free Sport, SAMI's
sister company. She also consults with other associations
that need project management services, including
overseeing an online coaches education course SAMI
developed for AAU Girls Basketball. Hawes also serves
as a consultant to the Faculty Athletics Representatives
Association (FARA), assisting the association with
projects related to a new communications initiative.
Before joining SAMI in 2004, Hawes was a key figure
in the NCAA’s public affairs and communications groups,
providing public relations counsel, press releases and
other materials for NCAA leadership. Hawes also was
associate editor of the NCAA's flagship publication,"The NCAA News."
A Certified Association Executive (CAE), Hawes is a
member of the American Society of Association
Executives (ASAE) and serves as chair of the Kansas City
Society of Association Executives (KCSAE) Public Affairs
Committee. Hawes has a master's degree in magazine
journalism and a bachelor's degree in political science from
the University of Kansas.
